Three dead, two injured as landslide hit a mining village in South Cotabato
THREE persons were killed and two others were injured after a landslide hit two remote villages and a mining firm in South Cotabato on Wednesday afternoon, government reports said Thursday.
Reports reaching the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) office in Camp Aguinaldo said that the landslide occured at around 1pm at Sitio Tunnel, Brgy. Kimatu in T’boli town.
The NDRRMC reports identified the three landslide fatalities as Melton Otero, 50 of Lake Sebu town; Christopher Lagumbay, 35 and Ruben Castro, 27 both from Purok Uno, Poblacion in T’boli town.
The injured victims were named as Dusen Canson, 50 and Mackmack Tamagong both from Sitio Lamblete, Brgy. Kematu also in T’boli town, the NDRRMC reports said.
Lt. Colonel Lyndon Paniza, spokesman of the army’s 10th Infantry Division (ID) said that the landslide, brought by heavy rains, have also hit the office of T’boli Mining Company and burrying two tunnels.
“There are two tunnels that was hit by the landslides, but we still have no reports if there were any persons inside the tunnel,” Paniza said.
The NDRRMC reports said that the military, police and local government authotirities in the area are now conducting a search and rescue operations in the area. Anthony Vargas
