4 soldiers wounded in landmine explosion
FOUR army soldiers were wounded following another explosion of an improvised landmine Friday afternoon, March 15, at Barangay Parasanon, Maragusan, Compostela Valley Province.
According to Captain Mark Steve Cimini, CO of 5th Scout Ranger Company, his troops were securing the Peace and Development Team conducting community outreach program in the area when the landmine exploded.
It resulted to successive firefights that lasted almost two hours against the members of the New People’s Army (NPA).
The NPA were still using improvised landmine despite its prohibition as stated in the 1997 Ottawa Convention.
A 300 meter long firing wire used in making improvised landmines was recovered in the area.
The wounded were ferried by a helicopter and immediately brought to Panacan Station Hospital for medication. Verlin Ruiz
