Army arrests suspected JI contact from the MILF

GOVERNMENT security forces Tuesday afternoon have captured a top aide of a rouge Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) commander that has links with the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), a regional terrorist group based in Indonesia.

Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo, Wednesday, said that Abi Pamanay alias Abi Silongan, was arrested by security at arond 2:45 p.m. in a remote village in Isulan town in Sultan Kudarat on Tuesday afternoon.

The reports said that Pamanay was arrested by joint elements of the 104th Infantry Brigade, 46th Infantry Battalion and local police forces base on a warrant of arrest issued by the Kidapawan Regional Trial Court.

The reports said Pamanay is a senior associate of Abdul Basit Usman and a member of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the MILF’s 105th Base command.

The reports added that Pamanay, believed to be involved in past bombing incidents in the region, is the JI’s local contact that  operates in Southern Mindanao. He is presently undergoing debriefing at a military camp in Sultan Kudarat. Anthony Vargas
