TV host calls on victims of corrupt policemen
TV HOST and comedian Arnel Ignacio on Thursday, April 7, called on other victims of corrupt and abusive policemen to come out in the open and help the Philippine National Police (PNP) in weeding out scalawags in its organization.
Ignacio was recently victimized by three members of the PNP Highway Patrol Group (HPG).
“Sa mga biktima wag na magtago, lumantad kayo at mahain ng kaso. Dahil kung hindi, uulit lang sila. Kaya nga ako andito sa Camp Crame para tutukan ang reklamong hinain ko,” Ignacio told reporters in Camp Crame.
The TV host/comedian added that pursuing a case against corrupt and abusive policemen is one way of helping the PNP in its campaign of weeding out its ranks of scalawags in uniform.
“Noong una akala ko pag nagsumbong ka na eh matatanggal agad sila sa tungkulin, pero meron palang proseso na sinusunod dito kaya naghain na ako ng reklamo at akin po itong tinutukan,” Ignacio said.
HPG Director Chief Supt. Leonardo Espina said that they are now preparing a summary dismissal proceeding against the three HPG personnel facing complaints of robbery and extortion. They are PO3 Jose Llgas, PO3 Noel Pono and PO1 Joel Lasala.
“I’m just waiting for the resolution from our investigators to proceed with the summary dismissal proceedings and this is apart from the criminal case that we filed against them,” Espina said.
The three HPG personnel were ordered relieved from their post and restricted in the HPG quarters following the filing of robbery and extortion complaints by Ignacio.
They reportedly flagged down Ignacio, who was driving a 1997 Porsche 996 at the corner of C-5 and Julia Vargas in Pasig City last March 26 for having a loose license plate.
The TV host also said that the three policemen told him that time that the penalty for said “violation” was P100,000 and one of the policemen (Pono) appeared to be intoxicated and smelled of alcohol.
The policemen also shouted at him and his companion, Lulu Paoan, and demanded P50,000 from the TV host/comedian even though he was able to present documents proving that his car was not illegally bought. Anthony Vargas
