Katrina Paula cleared by QC RTC
FORMER movie starlet Katrina Paula on Tuesday, March 5, was cleared by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court of carnapping with homicide charges.
The said charges were filed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) against Paula in connection with the celebrated murder of car dealer Venson Evangelista last January.
Paula, Angeline Samonte in real life, said she never hid from authorities.
“Hindi ako nagtago, wala naman akong dapat itago. Sobrang inosente ako sa mga ipinaratang nila sa akin,” said Paula.
However, Highway Patrol Group (HPG) spokesman Senior Supt. Edwin Butacan said that the Paula still need to contend with five counts of anti-fencing cases filed by the HPG against her before the Mandaluyong City Prosecutor’s Office.
The HPG spokesman said that the anti-fencing case filed against the former starlet will not be weakened by the dismissal of the carnapping with homicide charges.
Evangelista was abducted on January 13 after meeting with buyers, who requested to test-drive a Toyota Land Cruiser, but his burned remains was later found in Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija.
Last year HPG officers recovered eight vehicles in the Mandaluyong City condominium where Paula and her boyfriend Raymond Dominguez resided. Five of the vehicles were found to be “hot cars.”
Dominguez was tagged by the police as the leader of a dreaded carnapping gang. Anthony Vargas
