Landlady nabbed for locking up woman
POLICE arrested in an entrapment operation Wednesday night a 30-year-old woman from Sta. Cruz, Manila who was tagged as the suspect in illegally detaining Guillerma Tan, 29, who was seven-month pregnant.
Chief Supt. Samuel D. Pagdilao Jr., director of the Crime Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP), identified the suspect as May Cabuenas, 30, resident of P. Guevarra St., Sta Cruz, Manila.
Also arrested with Cabuenas were: Maria Elena Apolinario, barangay chairwoman of 381 Zone 38, 3rd District of Manila; her husband Edgardo; Abigan Fermin; and David Emralino.
Fermin and Emralino are both barangay officials of the said place.
The victim, however, opted not to include the four in her complaint, prompting authorities to release them immediately after their physical examination at the PNP-Crime Laboratory, Pagdilao said.
Pagdilao also said that around 8 p.m. Wednesday, CIDG operatives led by Supt. Rodel Pastor, arrested Cabuenas during the pay-off inside Jolibee restaurant along Blumentritt St. in Sta Cruz, Manila.
The suspect was accosted while in the act of receiving marked money composed of two P500 bill incorporated in boodle money.
The CIDG chief said the arrest of Cabuenas stemmed from the complaint lobbed by Sherwin Mole Atienza, live-in partner of the victim, who averred that his partner was being held illegally by the suspect for non-payment of debt amounting to P50,000.
Atienza added that the suspect was also demanding P280,000 in exchange for the freedom of the victim, who has been detained illegally for a day.
A case of kidnapping and serious illegal detention against Cabuenas is being readied for filing in court. Anthony Vargas
