Navy ready to respond if Taal erupts
THE Philippine Navy on Thursday, April 21, placed its fleet support unit on standby throughout the rest of the Lenten Season as Taal Volcano continued to show signs of possible eruption.
Taal Volcano is showing signs of restiveness the past several weeks prompting the disaster agencies to raise the alert level 2 warning over the surrounding towns and villages in Taal Lake.
The commander of the Philippine Fleet, Rear Admiral Luis Alano, said in a statement that the fleet support force are now on standby and ready to rescue and evacuate some residents that remain on the island volcano.
“The Philippine Fleet has readied its troops and equipments in case Taal Volcano erupts anytime,” Alano said in a statement.
The fleet commander said that the fleet support will be deploying rubbery boats, M35 trucks, life vests, divers and ambulance team in the event that the volcano erupts.
Following continuous seismic activity around the volcano, the city government of Cavite and 160 village volunteers underwent a two-day training on Disaster Preparedness last April 19 and 20 at Fleet headquarters at Sangley Point, Cavite City. Anthony Vargas
