RP-US soldiers build classrooms in Tarlac
PHILIPPINE and United States soldiers joined forces in constructing a two-classroom building Saturday, April 9, at the Pedro L. Quines Elementary School, Mayantoc, Tarlac Province.
It was part of the PH-US Exercise Balikatan 2011 civic military action programs taking place in the central and northern parts of the country.
According to Army Col. Rod Armas, Northern Luzon Command Public Information Office chief, the classrooms, together with desks, chairs, bags, shoes, and other school supplies will be officially turned over on Monday, April 11 coinciding with the turnover ceremony of the United States Assistance to International Development (USAID) and Balikatan 2011 (BK11) donated items.
Armas added that the program is the first out of three major exercises included in BK11, which aims to strengthen both Philippine and U.S. armed forces’ interoperability.
Engineering Civic Action Program (ENCAP), medical, dental, veterinary and community relation programs are all part of the Civic Military Operations that the Balikatan 2011 is conducting.
Other classroom buildings are set to be constructed in Brgy. San Antonio and Brgy. Candelaria in Zambales. Verlin Ruiz
