3 dead, 18 injured as bus plunges into deep ravine
THREE persons were killed and 18 others were injured Wednesday night after the bus they were riding fell into a 70-meter deep ravine in a remote village in Negros Occidental, police reports said.
Reports reaching the PNP operations center in Camp Crame said Thursday that the incident took place at around 8 p.m. when a Ceres Bus (5229) fell off in a deep ravine in Barangay Rizal, San Carlos City.
At the time of the incident, the bus with at least 50 passengers was reportedly heading towards San Carlos City coming from Bacolod City, reports said.
The reports added that the fatalities of the incident were Emerlinda Dumangcas, 19; the bus driver; and one unnamed passenger, while the injured passengers were brought to the San Carlos City Hospital for medical treatment.
Police are now conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the incident, with witnesses saying that one of the bus headlights were not functioning.
