ASG bandits abduct Malaysian nat’l in Sulu
A MALAYSIAN national was abducted over the weekend by a group of unidentified gunmen believed to Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) members in a remote village in Sulu, reports said Monday.
Reports reaching the PNP operations center in Camp Crame’s said Mohammad Nasaruddin Bensaidin, 38, was snatched by 10 gunmen Saturday midnight in Sitio Butan, Barangay Kajatian, Indanan, Sulu.
Military reports said that Bensaidin, who said to be a businessman involved in lizard trading, arrived in Jolo ten days ago and was seldom seen roaming around the town proper.
The incident is now being investigated by the Indanan Police stations to determine the identities of the abductors and possible motive for the abduction, reports said.
The abduction took place even as government security forces have been placed on their highest alert level following the killing of al-Qaida’s top leader, Osama Bin Laden, in Pakistan over the week.
