CIDG nabs fugitive American gangster in Boracay
MANILA, Philippines – PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) have arrested last week a fugitive American gangster who have sought refuge in a premier tourists destination spot in Western Visayas to elude arrest.
CIDG director, Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao Jr., said that Wiliam Preston Strong, 54, was nabbed by their operatives last Thursday in a resort at Alargo Part, Sitio Balinghai in Brgy. Yapak, Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan.
The CIDG chief said Strong was arrested by joint team of CIDG operatives and intelligence personnel of the Bureau of Immigration based on a Interpol Red Notice issued by authorities from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Pagdilao said that the American national has been long wanted by Brazilian authorities since 2008 for conspiracy, fraud and setting up a gang.
Strong fled to the Philippines and established a resort business in Boracay Island together with a Filipina partner, the CIDG chief said adding that BI has taken custody of the American for subsequent deportation.
