Cop gunned down in Sorsogon
MANILA, Philippines – Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebel hitmen shot dead a policeman on early dawn Wednesday while he was attending a high-school in Sorsogon, police reports said.
Initial reports reaching the PNP central operations center in Camp Crame identified the policeman gunned down by NPA hitmen as SPO1 Antonio Furio, a member of the Barcelona Municipal police office.
Reports said Furio was attending an alumni homecoming at the Barcelona National Comprehensive High School in Poblacion Norte when he was shot several times by three men that came out from nowhere at around 12:10 a.m.
The suspects, said to be NPA hitmen, fled towards the direction of Brgy. San Isidro after the shooting while the policeman was rushed to the Gubat District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Responding policemen were able to recover from the crime scene three spent shells of a .9mm pistol and two spent shells of a .45 caliber pistol used by the suspects in gunning down the policeman.
