Gunmen releases kidnapped Muslim trader
UNIDENTIFIED gunmen, Monday afternoon, freed a Muslim trader that they have abducted in Lanao del Sur last month over unpaid debt of the victim’s cousin, police reports said Tuesday.
Reports reaching Camp Crame said that Rashid Mocado Ote was released by his abductors in an undisclosed area in Piagapo town in Lanao del Sur at around 4:30 p.m. yesterday.
Reports said that the victim was released after the authorities gave an ultimatum to his abductors and following continuous negotiations made by Ote’s relatives and local elders in the area.
Ote was snatched by five armed men last Friday along the national highway in Barangay Bubong in Saguiran town while he, along with his wife and six children were on their way to Marawi City from Iligan City.
Police were able to identify two of the abductors as Usman Dalupang Datumaas and Samson Datumaas where the victim’s cousin, a certain Acmad from Manila, owed them some P10 million in which Ote had served as the guarantor.
“This Acmad failed to pay the debt that prompted the suspects to kidnap the victim for him to pay them in behalf of Acmad,” the reports said.
