NPA bandit killed in Albay encounter
A NEW People’s Army (NPA) extortionist was killed in an encounter with government troops in Albay.
Lt.Col. Audrey Pasia, Commanding Officer of the 2nd Infantry Battalion, said that one communist bandit member died in a clash with his troops at about 5 a.m. Friday, May 13.
Pasia said that he sent a nine-man squad led by 1Lt Rolita Basibas after receiving a tip from a concerned resident in Maog-og Village, Jovellar town.
“The rebels fired the first shots when they were approaching the 10-man bandit group led by Armando Arellano of Kilusang Larangang Gerilya 77, triggering a five-minute fire fight. The bandit fled with their casualties leaving behind one dead comrade with his M16 rifle and M203 grenade launcher,” said Pasia.
Maj. Gen Jose Gaverza Jr., commander of the 9th Infantry Division, directed Pasia to coordinate with the police authorities to give the fallen rebel a decent burial. Verlin Ruiz
