Police officer killed in NPA attack
ONE police officer was killed while another one was wounded in an ambush staged by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in a remote village in Batangas on Tuesday, May 24.
Reports reaching the PNP operations center in Camp Crame identified the slain police officer as PO1 Oliver Caraig Ilagan while the wounded was PO1 Christopher Tria. Both were assigned with the Provincial Public Safety Company.
The two were on board a patrol vehicle in the vicinity of Barangay Ermita Junction in Balayan town in Batangas when they were attacked by seven NPA rebels at around 10:30 a.m.
Ilagan died on the spot while Tria sustained multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of the body and was brought to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.
