Two combatants killed in encounter in Sarangani
MANILA, Philippines – two combatants were reportedly killed following an encounter between government troops and a group of communist rebels in a remote village in Sarangani Province, Sunday morning, military reports said Monday.
Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo, the military general headquarters in Manila, said the encounter took place at around 10:21 a.m. in the vicinity of Brgy. Tuanadatu in Maitum town.
Lt. Colonel Lyndon Paniza, spokesman of the army’s 10th Infantry Division said the encounter between troops of the 73rd Infantry Battalion and rebels took place after local officials in the area presence of rebels.
The army spokesman said that base on the reports a group of rebels, reportedly belonging to the newly reactivated F73 of FSM, have croosed to Maitum town coming from Brgy. Ned in Lake Sebu.
Scouting troops of the 73rd IB were immediately dispatched at the said area to check the reports and engaged the rebels in a firefight resulting to the death of one army militiaman and one rebel.
Paniza identified the army militiaman killed in the firefight as Joel Jorillo, while the body of the unnamed rebel was recovered by government troops along with several subversive documents.
