Police nabs 4 bank robbers in Ozamis City
MANILA, Philippines – Police have arrested at least four members of a local robbery group after foiling a robbery try on a Metrobank branch in Ozamis City on Monday afternoon, a police official said Tuesday.
The director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao Jr., identified the four arrested robbery suspects as Jimmy Parami, 43; Rolando Sapnoy, 26; Niel Ranin, 35 and Dullie Jul.
Pagdilao said the four were arrested by elements of the 10th Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (RCIDU) under Sr. Supt. Noli Romana at around 2pm Monday in the vicinity of Metrobank branch near the Cathedral on Rizal Ave., in Ozamis city.
The arrest followed a tip received by police of the presence of armed suspects near the bank, the CIDG director saidn adding that several pieces of high powered firearms were also seized from the suspects.
Pagdilao said that after receiving the tip, police set up checkpoints near the area and later spotted a Nissan Pathfinder (UGG 984) ferrying the suspects parked near the bank, a brief chase ensued resulting to the arrest of the four suspects.
The CIDG Director said that the group was also responsible for the series of robbery incidents in Northern Mindanao, including the recent incident at the Banco De Oro branch in Cagayan De Oro City.
Cases of illegal possession of firearms against the suspects will be filed filing before the City’s Prosecutor’s Office in Ozamis City.
