Radio commentator shot dead in Iriga City
A RADIO commentator was shot dead by still unidentified gunmen while on his way to report for work in Iriga City, Camarines Sur Monday morning, police reports said.
Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman, Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., quoting reports from the field, identified the victim as Romeo Olea, 49, a radio commentator for dwEB-FM, a radio station based in Nabua, Camarines Sur.
The PNP spokesman said the victim was aboard his motorcycle on his way to work when he was gunned down at around 5:52 a.m. in front of Holy Child Learning Center in Barangay San Jose in Iriga City.
Cruz said that the suspects were also on board a motorcyle and shot the victim at close range, hitting him at the back.
Olea was quickly rushed to the Rinconada Medical Center in Iriga City, but was pronounced dead-on-arrival by attending physician from two gunshot wounds he sustained in the attack, the PNP spokesmen said.
Responding policemen recovered two shells of a .9mm pistol at the crime scene while Task Group Olea was immediately formed to investigate the said shooting incident, the PNP spokesman said.
