PCSO: Giving fund to solons is legal
THE Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) maintained that there is nothing illegal in giving funds to congressional representatives through the Small Town Lottery (STL) program.
It is in accordance with the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the PCSO on the STL project, which allows the disbursement of funds to representatives requesting financial aid for their constituents.
The IRR was adopted by previous PCSO boards to expand its services to poor patients and Filipinos needing medical care.
The PCSO board issued a statement clearing the names of politicians, particularly the members of the House of Representatives, who were put in bad light about the issue.
The charity institution extended the assistance to remote congressional districts knowing that constituents frequently ask their representatives for healthcare support.
In the same statement, the PCSO board assured the public that the charity institution will continue to work in close partnership with the local governments to help the economically distressed communities.
