Red Lions eyes 5th win over Generals
ALMOST burned by a “lightweight” in its previous outing, defending champion San Beda College has learned its lesson well and will be at its sharpest when it takes on Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals today in the 87th National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil-Flying V Arena in San Juan.
San Beda (4-0) and EAC (2-2) clash in the 2 p.m schedule right after the junior matches pitting EAC’s Junior Generals against San Beda’s Red Cubs at 10 a.m., and Perpetual’s Altalettes against the La Salle Greenies at 11:45.
The Lions are eyeing a fifth straight win that will tie them with solo leader San Sebastian (5-0) while the Generals hope to improve their mark to 3-2.
San Beda last played College of St. Benilde and almost fell in upset. The Lions escaped with a 79-78 win but nearly paid a stiff price for treating the Blazers lightly.
The Lions, though, remain formidable with a roster led by Garvo Lanete, Kyle Pascual, Jake Pascual and the hot-shooting Dave Marcelo.
The Generals, on the other hand, will bank on rising stars Jan Jamon, Ellyzer Paguia and Emilian Vargas.
In the other seniors game, University of Perpetual Help System Dalta collide with the College of St. Benilde at 4 p.m.
The Altas will come into the game with high morale after essaying a shock 79-77 triple-overtime win over the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers a week ago.
