SSS announces opening of Journalism Award
THE Social Security System (SSS) has announced the opening of a journalism award for excellence to recognize outstanding works of Filipino journalists and media organizations in promoting public awareness on social security, labor and employments practices.
SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Emilio S. De Quiros Jr said the institution has sought nominations to the 1st SSS Balikat ng Bayan Awards for excellence in journalism, which honor the contribution of media in the development of Philippine society through good reporting practices.
“Media help us understand our immediate environment. They help us identify pertinent issues on social security,” he said. “Through their reports, we can address vital concerns and needs and design our programs and even policies effectively.”
The excellence award is one of the subcategories of the state-pension fund’s annual SSS Balikat ng Bayan award, which is conferred to companies and partner-institutions that significantly complied with the provisions of the Social Security law.
The SSS Balikat ng Bayan Awards for Excellence in Journalism will have six winners from national and regional media under three major categories, the excellence awards for print, tv, and radio.
De Quiros said winners will receive a special Balikat ng Bayan plaque, which was designed by recognized Filipino artist, Dr. Antonio Raymundo, and a cash prize of P20,000 and they will be named at the SSS 54th anniversary celebration on September 1.
“Many of them help us get our messages out to our stakeholders. We honor and recognize them for their exemplary efforts,” De Quiros said.
The SSS Media Affairs Department, which acts as the excellence award secretariat, will accept entries until August 8, 2011.
