Altas down Blazers in NCAA beach volley
UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help Altas bets Jay de la Cruz and Marcelo Joaquin turned back College of St. Benilde Blazers Jerome Sibal and Marjun Alingasa, 21-16, 21-10, to sweep their eight-game assignment last weekend in the men’s division of the NCAA beach volleyball tournament held at the La Salle Greenhills sand courts.
Arellano University pair Chris Salvador and John Lozada, meanwhile, topped Letran’s Rudy Gatdula and Joseph Ramos, 21-15, 21-10, to wrap up the elimination round behind Perpetual with an 8-1 mark.
The Altas will meet the Blazers again in the knockout semifinal round, while the Chiefs clash with the Knights in the other semis encounter.
In the women’s side, Letran’s Gena Andaya and Manel Carolino turned back Arellano’s Mary Jane Ticar and Jennilyn Lunar, 21-14, 22-20, to sweep their eight-game assignment.
The San Beda Lionesses also advanced to the semis for the first time after Coline Malana and Janine Marciano downed the pair of Joanna Clemente and Marjanette of Jose Rizal University, 23-21, 21-11.

UPHSD’s April Ann Sartin and Norie Diaz defeated College of St. Benilde’s Rossan Fajardo and Jannine Navarro, 21-13, 21-19, to finish at 8-1, to arrange a semis encounter with their victims.
In table tennis, San Beda, CSB, Letran and Perpetual Help in started their campaign strongly after turning back their respective foes.
The San Beda Red Lions, led by Nico Cruz and Edward Acica, blanked JRU, 3-0, and Lyceum, 3-0, while Letran;s Noah Trayco and Leo Oria Jr. also wiped out Mapua, 3-0, and Arellano, 3-0.
