Bulacan mayor’ bodyguard gunned down after shooting 4 innocent victims
A BULACAN town mayor’s bodyguard went on a shooting spree inside his boss’ office in Guiguinto town Tuesday afternoon, wounding at least four people before being gunned down himself.
Bulacan police chief Senior Supt. Fernando Mendez Jr. said the bodyguard, initially identified as one Danny Baña, may have been drunk when he went on a shooting spree.
“Yung bodyguard nag-amok, lasing siya, influence ng alak (nang) pumasok sa office ng mayor at binaril ang mga tao sa loob. Isang bodyguard ang nakalaban at napatay ang nag-amok na tao,” Mendez said in an interview on dzBB radio.
He did not immediately identify the four wounded people, but described one of them as another bodyguard of Guiguinto Mayor Isagani Pascual.
The other three included a municipal lawyer, a civilian, and a policeman with official business in Pascual’s office, he said.
A separate report by radio dzBB’s Allan Gatus identified those wounded as Eduardo Regino, mayor’s security, Erwin de Roza, Julius Aguilar, and a certain PO1 Mendoza
Mendez said the wounded were brought to the town’s hospital for treatment. He cited initial information showing some of the wounded may have to be operated on.
Citing preliminary reports, he said Baña may have gotten drunk after allegedly being berated by the mayor earlier in the day.
“From what I gathered, he was berated by the mayor earlier today. It might be a reason for him to get drunk,” he said in Filipino.
The mayor was not injured in the incident, he said.
Sketchy initial reports indicated the that Baña entered the mayor’s office with a 9-mm pistol and started shooting.
