Casino in Boracay and doing good in resigning
PERSONALLY, I dont see anything wrong with the planned establishment of a casino in the island resort of Boracay especially if the proponents intention is to cater to foreign tourists and other gambling aficionados who surely dont belong to the poor sector.
While I respect the residents opposition to the project, however, I had still this doubt if they are really into it for all we know they can love to have it there as itll certainly boost revenues for the provincial governments coffers.
A party-list group has expressed apprehensions that the proposed casino could trigger criminal activities in Boracay Island considered by many as one of the best in the world.
I said otherwise. There are a lot of existing casinos in the country and we havent heard of increased criminal activities around them for there are law en-enforcement authorities who are out to protect and serve the public.
I can assure that and National Police chief Director General Raul Bacalzo will definitely not go against me.
Resigning is a good thing to do
Ex-Sen. Miguel Zubiri just did the right thing when he resigned from his post. Many had been surprised but there were also a lot that were not.
By doing so, he has effectively spared the Senate as an institution from the damage being brought by accusations of poll fraud that seriously dragged his name.
Even if the good senator would argue that his resignation has nothing to do with the irregularities in Maguindanao in the 2007 elections, he cant stop the people from thinking that he hugely gained from the electoral anomalies that said to have also benefited ex-President Arroyo and other candidates.
And resigning is indeed the best and humblest thing to do.
By doing it, even if it would be gradual, he could be able to regain the trust of the people.
