CIDG nabs another Maguindanao massacre suspect in GenSan
THE PNP’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has arrested over the weekend another suspect in the infamous massacre of 57 persons, mostly journalists, in Maguindanao on 2009.
CIDG Chief, Director Samuel Pagdilao Jr., identified the latest suspect in the gruesome kiling to be arrested by CIDG tracker team as Fahad Utto Watamama, alias Richard Gofel.
Watamama was arrested by operatives of CIDG Region 12 under Supt. Pedro Austria Jr., at Purok Minanga, Brgy. Bauyan in General Santos City, Pagdilao said.
The CIDG Cheif said the suspect was nabbed based on a warrant of arrest issued by Jocely Solis-Reyes of Branch 22 of Quezon City Regional Trial Court for 56 counts of murder in connection with the massacre.
The suspect is temporarily being held at the CIDG 12 detention and will be flown to Manila to face trial for his involvement in the gruesome massacre that elicited public outrage and forced the brief imposition of Martial Law in Maguindanao.
Pagdilao assured the families of all the victims that the CIDG, together with its field operatives in Maguindanao province, will continuously exert relentless efforts until all of remaining suspects at large have been arrested.
The recent arrest of Utto Watamama is in line with Pagdilao’s marching order to all CIDG regional and provincial units to hit hard on wanted persons especially those who are involved in heinous crimes, like the Maguindanao massacre.
