Ravena is UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week
ATENEO rookie Kiefer Ravena posted an average of 16.5 points, four rebounds, five assists and 2.5 steals this week to lead Ateneo to a first round sweep and earn the ACCEL-3XVI UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week award.
After failing to score a single point against Adamson U Falcons in the first game, Ravena became instrumental in his next six games.
“After my first game I thought to myself that I have six more games to really perform,” the 17-year-old Ravena said.
He totaled 18 points, five rebounds, six assists and a steal in a 66-53 victory over Final Four Contender University of Santo Tomas last Thursday.
In Sunday match between last year’s championship series, Ateneo and Far Eastern U, Ravena scored 19 points, nine rebounds and two assists to lead the Blue Eagles to a 69-49 victory.
“I didn’t relax after that horrible first game. I took every practice seriously and make sure that I’m very competitive every game because as much as possible, we want to win every game,” Ravena lamented.
Ateneo also improved its chances of capturing the top-seed in the Final Four going into the second round as the Blue Eagles are now three games clear of second place FEU (4-3).
Ravena edged Adamson’s Lester Alvarez, University of the East’s Paul Zamar and UST’s Jeric Fortuna in the weekly honor given by scribes from various broadsheets, tabloids and sports websites. Elech Dawa
