Director Tony Y. Reyes out to crush Bong Revilla at the coming MMFF
This is big news to the movie industry because it meant that Vic Sotto who topbills it finally has made it official that yes, like Sen. Bong Revilla who is doing solo for “Panday 2,” Vic is also out on his own this time with Ai-Ai delas Alas no less as his female lead.
I was excited to know of this development because it seems all the other entries for the Metro Manila Film Festival 2011 are almost about to wrap up on their last shooting day like Panday 2 of Sen. Bong Revilla, Jr. Robin Padilla’s “Mr. Wong” opposite Angelica Panganiban is halfway over according to his official manager Director Deo J. Fajardo, Jr.
For a change, this time Director Tony Y. Reyes is not directing the actors of the proven box-office hit tandem of Joey de Leon and Vic Sotto, but just the same, I am most positive about this that the present tandem of Vic Sotto and Ai-ai delas Alas in Enteng Ng Ina Mo would be another box office monster hit. I bet you my bottom peso.
Meaning it will have a head-on collision with Bong Revilla’s solo starrer Ang Panday 2 in terms of box-office and acting awards. Ai-Ai delas Alas might repeat her winning the MMFF Best Actress last year for her last Ina series on this one which I think is unique and smartly thought of tandem and title to boot with Vic Sotto who I think is not far off winning the best actor award considering that this is going to be a damn real good, wacky showcase of Vic’s proven comedic talent and with another veteran yet in the department Ai-Ai.
Think about that, last year’s Guillermo Foundation box–office hit actor ( minus Bong Revilla this time) as well as box-office monster hit movie and last year’s box-office hit director Tony Y. Reyes plus last year’s box-office monster hit queen Ai-Ai together in one movie? Isn’t that fabulous and smashing and crushing as well to the opponents?
We may recall that Director Reyes was crowned box-office hit director at the last Guillermo Foundation Memorial Award held at Makati along with his Panday 1 oeuvre and naturally with Bong and Vic as top box-office hit actors.
I was witness to this because that time we helped Zirkoh proprietor Lito Alejandria in cheering up for Ai-Ai who bagged the box-office queen title, although she lost to Angelica Panganiban for the Guillermo Foundation best actress award.
Ai-Ai was later vindicated when she won Best Actress at the PMPC (Phil. Movie Press Club) Star Awards for Movies which she most deserved anyway.
We all know that the first team up ever of Vic Sotto with Bong Revilla in “Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote” megged by Director Tony Y. Reyes last year was on record an unprecedented box-office monster hit. That made Director Reyes as the reigning box-office king director, although he had stashed these titles long, long ago and up to the most current time even previous to Ang Panday.
Ang Panday, though made history by being the first Filipino movie to have made the highest opening gross at P31M. And of course it continued to gross billions until the end of the festival.
So this year’s MMFF is going to be more than exciting as last year’s in terms of box-office and other awards. But for sure to our fearless forecast this early the throne to the most coveted awards and other honors at the coming festival will only be a toast, if not fight between Inteng Ng Ina Mo and Ang Panday 2.
I told you it’s going to be a head-on collision between this two giant film projects at hand. When we brought the brought the prediction up to Director Tony Y. Reyes, he merely gave us a certain smile assured perhaps that he is prepared for the coming big match anyway. And that’s about 100 days from now. Check it out!
