Fanny Serrano binalahura at ginutom sa Miss World Phil. pageant
LAST Sept. 13, 2011, the pre-pageant gala night for Miss World Philippines pageant was showcased at Manila Hotel. Despite the brilliance and pageantry of the beautiful hopefuls the event was almost a disaster.
Tim Yap who emceed the event bungled it to the end. He was not in his element. Imagine a little halfway through the event, he concluded it by saying, “goodnight to everyone” only to be superseded by a panicking voice-over from someone else’s telling the dazed audience on their way out to stay.
I heard the Miss World director, swearing, “If I had a gun right now, I would shoot Tim in his bloodshot eyes!”
Backstage, the production people were famished. No food, no water. Nada. Disorganized is the word for it. Fanny Serrano who was the official make-over artist representing PICA (Phil. International Cosmetologists Association) with close to 300 members nationwide took to the nearest exit of Manila Hotel and staged his grand walk-out in the face of Aliw Awardee-balladeer Arthur Manuntag who felt through much of Fanny Serrano’s deprivation.
Someone tweeted, “Na-okray hindi lang ang beauty ni Mama Fanny kundi pati bituka niya. Kasi naman mapagpatol thinking it would elevate him. Ayan tuloy…”
The following night last Sept. 14, the official finalists of Miss World Philippines was announced at the totally renovated and many times over fabulous Midas Hotel (former Hayatt Hotel), Pasay City, Roxas Boulevard. The event was well-organized, what with Mrs. Crispina Martinez-Belen and PR diva Geena Zablan coordinating the event on behalf of Miss World in close partnership with top society writer Resty Vergara who is the entertainment director of Midas Hotel.
The Midas Hotel event was close to perfection, except that the previous disastrous night at Manila Hotel kept on popping up yet like hot pica-picas at the cocktails and onto the 2nd floor of the gourmet buffet station of Midas where we savored dinner hosted by Resty Vergara with the sociables Dr. Joni Dizon, Joy Fong, Geena Zablan, who was lost to her twittering about her latest controversial fashion show (with Bohol Gang members on the occasion of the birthday bash of the rich and famous owner of Peacock Garden Hotel Resort Lani Schoof) to the enthused beauty queen title-holder herself Jean Saburit who just came in from abroad wearing a regal Sach-Fifth outfit with matching bag yet.
The entertainment numbers of Miss World Phil. at Midas swept me off my feet in particular the beautiful and musical genius EJ Park (also an actress/model) with her depth and mastery on the electronic violin. And guess who brought this Korean master and prodigy on the Phil. shore? No less than the famous Bella Estrella Dimayuga, the president of Events, Inc. who is doing a series of shows in Manila for EJ Park. Check it out.
