Nuyles, UAAP Player of the Week
Nuyles picked the right time to shine this week as he finished with 21 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal as Adamson finally ended its 29-game losing skid over Ateneo Saturday with a 62-46 beating.
“Even before, I know that he will shine. And against Ateneo, it was the best time to shine,” said Austria of Nuyles, the ACCEL-3XVI UAAP Player of the Week.
Nuyles’ performance not only ended Adamson’s 14-year losing drought against Ateneo but it also gave Ateneo its first loss of the season to stop the Blue Eagles from making it to the finals outright via an elimination-round sweep.
The win also gave Adamson a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four and Nuyles’ explosion came at a right time as they prepare to face Far Eastern University on Thursday.
“In the first few games, he was very immature but now he is starting to learn from his experiences in the past,” said Austria.
Nuyles was emotional after the game as he wept during the singing of the school hymn as his team finally beat Ateneo.
“I’ve been here since 2006 and we always lose to Ateneo. We really practiced hard so that we can beat Ateneo. I really felt that now is our time to beat Ateneo,” said Nuyles in Pilipino.
Nuyles beat the performances of National University’s Bobby Ray Parks and Far Eastern University’s RR Garcia for the weekly honor given by sportswriters from broadsheets, tabloids and sports websites.
