Rebels burn heavy equipment in Surigao del Sur
ABOUT 100 armed men believed to be communist rebels on late Monday afternoon, September 5, harassed a mining firm in Surigao del Sur and destroyed several heavy equipment.
Reports reaching the PNP operations center in Camp Crame said that some 100 armed men swooped down on the compound of Bislig Ventures at Km 21, Rajah Kabungsuan in Lingig town at around 2 p.m.
The armed men, the reports said, quickly disarmed the compound’s security guards before proceeding inside to the company’s heavy equipment used in mining coals.
The reports said the rebels burned five dump trucks and three saddam hauler trucks, all loaded with coal, before escaping towards unknown direction.
The army and police forces launched a combined pursuit operations against the fleeing rebels while nearby town police stations were alerted for more possible rebel atrocities. Anthony Vargas
