“Since the Batasan bombing in 2007, our life has never been the same. The minute I introduce myself as a Hataman, a voice inside my head will always pray that the people do not judge me for the news attached to the name. It is, and will never be easy. Try to Google Hataman, and the Batasan bombing will always come out first. But more than me and Mujiv, I worry for our children.”

“People who do not want him to be in position, or those who simply find fulfillment in destroying his name find the Batasan bombing a very handy tool. But as they joyfully hammer us, allow me to shamelessly cry in pain, because it hurts, a lot. I believe Mujiv is innocent. Not because he is my husband. But because of the following facts, which I swear to be true by the Holy Qur’an.”

“Afterthoughts. Had I left Royal Place a few minutes earlier, I would have been exactly where the bomb exploded when it did. I usually park my X-trail at the South parking, enter the Building through the South wing entrance, pass by the South wing lobby, because Mujiv’s office is at the 4th Floor of South wing.”

“If the kids didn’t fall asleep in the car, we would’ve proceeded to the Congress. The bomb exploded right after the session, if we were there, Mujiv might have proceeded to his office immediately after the session and would have been in the lobby when it exploded. Worst, if we decided to go out with the kids then, me and the kids would have been waiting for him in the lobby when it exploded.”

“Let me tell you, not even the billions of ARMM can pay for the trauma that we went through. If that is your interest, please, by all means, you can have them all for yourselves.

“Please, have a little decency and show respect for them. If you simply do not want him to be OIC of ARMM, go ahead and raise your arguments. Question his capacity, ridicule him for not finishing college, build on rumors against his credibility. I leave him to take you on that.”

“I thought there will be no more need for this day. For this story. But when people are again waving the flag of the Batasan bombing as if flags of victory against Mujiv, I had to speak. Not for Mujiv. He can very well take care of himself, even better without me nagging behind, but for Kuya Amin, Kuya Iman, Ate Umara and baby Oumar. I raise my voice for the Bangsamoro, let it not be said that I failed to speak up for my own children.” Meliza Maluntag
