The public was outraged after learning that President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III “secretly” gave P5 million “dole out” to Moro Islamic Liberation Front chair Al Haj Murad when they met in Tokyo, Japan recently.

The P5 million-gift became public knowledge when an enterprising reporter from a major newspaper made it public otherwise we would not have known about it. We are

wondering why the president tried to make to the gift giving a secret to the public.

However, this incident became known to the public after the MILF massacred 19 soldiers in Basilan as they ran after several members of the notorious Abu Sayyaf

and after another group of Muslim rebels also ambushed and waylaid several soldiers in Zamboanga Sibugay.

Malacañang spinners said the money was intended for leadership training of MILF leaders and was part of the agreement entered into by the government and the rebel group.

They also said the government would be closely monitoring how the money was spent.

Nevertheless, the cash gift was made in bad taste because there would be no stopping the MILF to use it for the procurement of arms intended to kill government personnel and innocent Christian leaders.

The so-called monitoring process is just a formality. A lot that I have spoken with are of the opinion that the MILF can just forged documents and signatures to

make it appear that the money was indeed spent to train Muslim leaders.

Well we just hope that government leaders are right when they said the case was meant to establish trust between the government and the MILF. I truly hope and

pray we can trust the MILF.

There was a time when it was the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) that is battling the government for an Islamic State in Mindanao and Palawan but after  they were militarily beaten they entered into a peace agreement but not before it allowed the creation of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) which is the current

protagonist of the government in Mindanao.

The MILF is currently engaged in a peace talk with the government but just like the MNLF it also allowed the creation of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

A pattern is clearly emerging. Peace talks are entered into by Muslim rebel groups but only after it ensured that a new group would be formed to continue their fight.

Moro-moro ang lahat at ang biktima ay tayo. Kailan kaya matututo ang pamahalaan sa modus na ito ng mga kalaban.
