PHL women’s cage team enters final
THE Philippine women’s basketball team posted an important victory to arrange a championship showdown against Bangkok Bank of Thailand in the first PSC-SBP Discovery Women’s Basketball Invitational at the West Negros University gym in Bacolod City on Friday (September 30).
The Filipinas beat the Fujian Team of China, 63-47, in the semis.
The Thais, composed of National Team B players, earlier routed the Qataris, 90-62, for a 2-1 mark.
China’s loss, their second in three matches, set them a meeting with the winless Qatar for third place.
The Nationals, also known as Discovery Perlas, drew another solid performance from Aurora Adriano, who scattered 11 of her 19 points in the first quarter. Merenciana Arayi chipped in 16 points.
“Gumana yung outside shooting namin and nakuha naman namin yung target namin, which is to limit our opponent to 12 points per quarter,” said PHL team coach Haydee Ong.
Lin Qingrong led the Chinese with 17 points while Zheng Xiaojing, a candidate for naturalization for the PHL team, chipped in 12 points.
