4 dead, 8 wounded in grenade explosion in North Cotabato
MANILA, Philippines – Four persons including two children were killed and eight others were wounded following a grenade explosion in a remote village in North Cotabato Wednesday night, military and police reports said Thursday.
Reports reaching the PNP operations center in Camp Crame said the explosion took place at around 7:30 p.m. when a unidentified man lobbed a grenade at a house of certain Dina Madrigal at Barngay Nalin 1, Midsayap town.
The reports identified the four fatalities in the grenade explosion as Hilario Villaflor, 60; Isidro Awa, 40; Eric John Querol, 12 and John Lyod Anza, 8.
Villaflor was killed on the spot while the three others died while being treated in a hospital in Libungan town, the reports said.
Wounded were Louie Grace Baran, 23; Dina Madrigal, 57; Marvin Bayo, 20; Roda Mae Sila, 19; Isidro Awa III, 14; Franzbet Anza, 8; Sofia Bianca Anza, 5 and Rena Mae Baran, 3.
Responding policemen recovered from the scene a safety lever pin of a fragmentation grenade while witnesses says the suspet fled on board a motorcycle.
Police are investigating the possible motive behind the attack.
