8 dead, 6 wounded in clan war in Lanao del Sur
MANILA, Philippines – at least eight people were killed and six others were wounded after fighting between two warring clans erupted in Lanao del Norte over the weekend, police and military reports said Monday.
Reports reaching the PNP central operations center in Camp Crame said that the fighting between two clans took place late last week in a remote village of Malalis in Sultan Dumalondong town in Lanao del Sur.
The fighting started after members of the family of Arinao Azum attacked on Thursday the villages of Malalis and Dulangan in Butlig town, which is a known territory of the families of Apollo Alim.
The reports said the firefight between the warring clans lasted for about four hours that resulted to the killing of eight people and wounding of eight others from both sides including two militiamen.
The fighting only stopped following the arrival of joint forces of the Lanao del Sur Provincial Police Office and elements of the 103rd Infantry Brigade arrived in the area to pacify the warring clan.
