Fighting broke-out between two MILF factions in North Cotabato

MANILA, Philippines – Figthing erupted between two factions of the Moro Islamic Liberation (MILF) in North Cotabato Saturday morning forcing hundreds of families to flee from their homes for safety, military reports said.

Initial reports in Camp Aguinaldo, the military headquarters in Manila, said the fighting between two MILF factions erupted at around 5 a.m. in Sitio Pedtad, Barangay Dungos in Tulunan town in North Cotabato.

The reports sent by the army’s 6th Infantry Division said that the group of Commander Sukarno and Commander Jun Panangulon, both of the MILF’s 108th Base command were involved in the fighting.

No casualties were yet to be reported between the two warring sides of the MILF, but Army Spokesman, Major Harold Cabunoc said that their troops in the area are constantly monitoring the situation.

Fighting still continues as of press time.
