Ikaw ang magpakatotoo Maricel!

MISMONG si Mother Lily na raw ang nakiusap sa press invited to the pictorial for Maricel Soriano’s Metro Manila filmfest entry na, “Be kind to Maricel.”

Obviously, more than the actress’s project ay mas interesanteng pag-usapan ang kasong verbal at physical abuse na isinampa laban sa kanya ng dating kasambahay, sina May Cachuela at Camille Acojedo. Ayon sa reklamo ng dalawang househelp who had only been under Maricel’s employ for two weeks in her Rizal Tower unit at Rockwell in Makati City, alas-otso ng gabi noong June 29, 2011 nang dumanas umano sila ng pagmamalupit sa aktres.

Unang idinulog nina May at Camille sa programa ni Mon Tulfo ang kaso, na kaagad namang inaksiyunan ng Barangay Poblacion na sumasakop sa tirahan ni Maricel. The actress was then summoned to appear at the barangay, pero hindi niya sinipot ang unang hearing.

Inisnab din ni Maricel ang ikalawang barangay summon, and should she snub the third scheduled hearing ay iaakyat na ang kaso sa korte. Du’n natapos ang kuwento, we lost track if Maricel did show up during the third hearing.

Next thing, heto na si Maricel, promoting her filmfest entry kung paanong the press had lost touch with both May and Camille na ewan kung inareglo o binayaran na ng kampo ni Maricel para manahimik. Seemingly unaffected, Maricel faced the press but with safe answers though tungkol sa naturang kaso.

“Pagsubok” ang terminong ginamit ng aktres sa kanyang pinagdaanan na kinailangan daw niyang magpakatatag. But in Maricel’s statement—both vague and self-acquitting—isang salitang binitiwan niya ang nais naming ibalik sa kanya.

“Magpakatotoo” was her advice in the midst of all this, na nagbigay-daan daw para malampasan niya ang pagsubok na ‘yon. Known for her brutal frankness, regardless kung sinuman ang kanyang masasagasaan nang walang busi-busina, sa pagkakataong ito, such a word is best addressed to you…ikaw ang magpakatotoo, Maricel!

COCO MARTIN traces his humble beginnings as an indie film actor.

Determined to set foot on a foreign land whatever it took, nag-apply ng tourist visa si Coco sa Canada. Pero ang pagpunta niya roon was not in any way related to his showbiz work, kundi namasukan siya bilang isang janitor. With no legal working papers, Coco held his menial job during irregular hours. On weekends, he would do housekeeping work for friends in their household.

Coco’s janitorial work lasted for nine months, pero sa kanyang pagbabalik ay tila mas luminis at mas kumintab ang kanyang career path, thanks to the people who believed he had a talent in acting. “Kaya kung bibigyan ako ng role na janitor, panis sa akin ‘yon. Du’n ako magaling!” natatawang pagbibida ni Coco.

ABS-CBN is where Coco has found a home. Tatlong taon na siya sa naturang estasyon that has so far given him three of the biggest teleseryes on primetime, the last of which was Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin. But all three TV projects have earned numerous acting recognitions for Coco, no wonder, he’s aptly addressed now as the King of Teleserye.

At the table that I shared with you at the event, Kuya Pete, iisa lang ang consensus naming mga kolumnista about Coco: he’s such a level-headed person. Hindi rin kataka-taka that such character trait that Coco unassumingly exudes is the very root of all his abundant blessings.

And even more to come.
