King of Teleserye Theme Songs Mark Alain is PMPC’s looker of the night
AT THE recent 3rd PMPC (Phil. Movie Press Club) Star Awards for Music, Mark Alain created quite a stir because he was bereft of one nomination for New Male Recording Artist of the Year category other than the other nomination which he also most deserved for Song Of The Year for his song “Maghihintay” which he recorded for Sony Music.
It was found out that he was not “new” anymore as he had been in the music scene as member of the Frio music band for years. Not his fault, though, sorry Mark.
All the same, Mark Alain competed strongly in the category of the New Song category alongside Toni Gonzaga, Cesar Montano, Synergy Music, Angeline Quinto, Sarah Geronimo, and Gloc 9. Such tough act mind you.
Mark lost it to Angeline Quinto but he won one of the most coveted awards (think of another window opening for this drop-dead mestizo looker oozing with sex appeal from the land of hostages, Abu Sayaff and all) that night “in situ” which was Male Face of the Night along with other esteemed awardees like Male Celebrity of the Night, Jose Mari Chan; Female Celebrity of the Night, Nora Aunor, Female Star of the Night, Nikki Gil and Male Star of the Night, Gerald Santos.
Moreover, how could this Basilan-born looker Mark Alain be called new to the music scene when he has been hailed as the reigning “King of Teleserye Theme Songs” on the reigning networks.
Prior to the awards night I asked Mark’s handler Queenie Macahilig of Sony Music why Sony Music seems bent on pushing the guy’s album to which she quipped, “Mark’s songs even before he signed for Sony have become the hottest songs on radio. “Maghihintay” and “Sa Piling Ko” were consistently in the top 10 of 90.7 Love Radio and 101.1 Yes FM Countdown. This 2011 we think that the singer is getting ready to bring more topnotch OPM songs especially his ballads with the help of Sony Music, that’s why.”
Mark Alain became a household name when two of his songs became the theme top-rating teleseryes aired over the Kapuso network, namely “Maghihintay” for “Blusang Itim,” and he recorded the original version of “Sa Piling Ko,” which was re-recorded by another singer for the afternoon soap “Sisid.” Soon afterwards, Mark Alain’s voice was heard once again in the ballad version of the Cueshe hit “Pangako” which he did with TV5’s Morisette as the love theme of the Kapatid network’s action soap “Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum.” With such attention and recognition, fans have hailed Mark Alain as the reigning “King of Teleserye Theme Songs.”
Mark Alain philosophizes, “The heart is the center of my universe and love is the rule of which I live by. I am sensitive of the world, and excited for the possibilities it may bring.” I could foresee one of these days Mark would use his songs to temper down the hatred in the hearts of the Abu Sayaff in his place in Basilan. Why not?
