MILF commander killed in shootout

TWO persons, including a Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) commander, were killed after a shootout between two armed groups erupted in a remote village in Sultan Kudarat on Monday noon (November 21).

Reports reaching the PNP operations center in Camp Crame said the shootout between two warring factions of armed men took place at around 12:44 pm in Brgy. Pidtiguian, Lambayog town in Sultan Kudarat.

The reports identified the fatalities in the shootout as Commander Sampulna Baumol and a certain Sammy Utto while wounded was a certain Abraham Tampungan, who is now being treated at a nearby hospital.

The reports said that the shootout occurred when the group of Baumol’s group met in the area the private armed group of Commander Maugantong Banisil, which were reportedly at odds over territorial spat

Baumol belongs to the MILF’s 106th Base Command under Commander Mosanip Solaiman that operates in the area of Isulan, Esperanza, Lambayong, Bagunbayan and Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat and in Sultan sa Barongins, Maganoy town and Maguindanao. Banisil’s group is also known to operate in the said area, the reports said.

The reports added that elements of the Sultan Kudarat Provincial Police Command and Lambayog Municipal Police station were deployed to secure the area to prevent an outbreak of violence between the two groups. Anthony Vargas
