Police official killed by traffic violator
A POLICE official in the province of Tawi-Tawi was killed while trying to pacify a suspect arrested for a traffic accident Monday afternoon (November 14) in Bonggao town.
The suspects was also killed by responding policemen and marine troops following a three-hour standoff, said by reports reaching Camp Crame operations center.
The report sent by Tawi-Tawi Provincial Police Office said Inspector Erick Fregillana was shot dead by one Abdul Sabdani, whom the former was trying to disarm for alleged involvement in a traffic accident.
Initial investigation disclosed that at around 1:30 p.m., Fregillana was trying to disarm Sabdani of his M16 rifle at Barangay Pahut, Bongao when the suspect shot the police.
Fregillana and his team retaliated but the suspect managed to take cover and shoot the police official in the process.
A three-hour fire fight augmented by police and Army troops led to the eventual death of the suspect, police said.
Recovered were an M16 rifle, an M14 rifle, a caliber .45 pistol, a caliber .38 revolver, a rifle grenade and homemade airgun. Anthony Vargas
