Robredo favors house arrest for GMA
MANILA, Philippines – A ranking official of the Aquino administration on Friday said that he pose no objection placing former President, now Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo under house arrest.
The former was placed under hospital arrest at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City last week after a Pasay City Regional Trial Court issued a warrant for her arrest following the filing of electoral sabotage charges by the Aquino administration.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo told reporters in Camp Crame that he is favor of placing the former president under house arrest at her home in the posh La Vista Village in Quezon City.
However, the Interior Secretary said that he also finds nothing wrong in placing Rep. Arroyo under hospital arrest as long as this will made in any government hospital in Metro Manila.
“In case of hospital arrest, it should be at a government hospital where medical attention can be rendered immediately to Mrs. Arroyo,” Robredo said.
As of press time, the Pasay City Regional Trial is still hearing the petition of the camp of the former president that Mrs. Arroyo should be placed under hospital due to her medical condition, which is being opposed by government lawyers.
