SPD acting chief in hot water over GMA’s mug shot leak

MANILA, Philippines – The officer in charge of the Southern Police District (SPD) is now in hot-water following the leaking of a photo-mug shot of former president, now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo despite appeals from her camp not to publish it.

SPD officer in charge, Senior Supt. James Bucayu was ordered to report to Camp Crame, the PNP headquarters, to explained the leak of the mug shot of the former president, which came out in a leading newspaper and several online news sites.

The mug shot was apparently taken last Saturday inside Arroyo’s hospital room at St. Lukes Medical Center in Taguig City while police is booking her on charges of electoral sabotage, which is a non bailable offense.

PNP Chief, Director General Nicanor Bartolome, Jr., ordered Bucayu to report to his office and explains for the mug shot leakage despite a ruling from the court that it should not released or publish.

“He was called to report to the office of chief PNP chief apparently the top brass did not gave any authorization for ist release… so he (Bucayu) will have to explain a lot why it came out,” said by a Camp Crame official who asked anonymity.

The police official said that the PNP leadership ordered an investigation about the leakage of the mug shot and added that the SPD officer in charge might get some reprimand for the said incident.

“The court has already ruled that those mugshot photos cannot be publish so whoever behind those leakage will be given some reprimand and might also charged for contempt of court,” the police official added.
