Three dead, three injured as jeep slams hill in Butuan
MANILA, Philippines – Three persons were killed and three others were injured after a passenger jeep slammed on a roadside hill in Butuan City early Saturday morning, police reports said Sunday.
Reports reaching the PNP operations center in Camp Crame on Sunday said that the vehicular incident took place at around 7:30 am along the national road Purok 3, Brgy. Amparo in Butuan City.
The reports said that a passenger jeep (LYC-730) driven by Lauro Alvares, 46, was negotiating the said road when it lost its brake due to mechanical problem and swerved on the right hill portion of the road.
As a result of the accident, two passengers and a bystanders were killed on the spot and injuring three others that were brought to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, the reports said.
The passenger jeep reportedly came from Brgy. Tungao and was heading for the city proper to deliver some 104 sacks of yellow corn at the time of the incident. The driver is now under police custody.
