AFP, PNP ready for GMA’s transfer to VMMC
THE military on Thursday has placed three companies of soldiers on ready-standby and assist the police forces in Metro Manila for any eventuality that may arise once former president, now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is transferred to her new ‘detention’ cell in Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City.
But, Major General Tristan Kison, chief of the National Capital Regional Command (Ncrcom) said that securing the safety of the former president will remain the primary responsibility of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The NCRCOM chief said that three companies of civil disturbance management (CDM) soldiers coming from the Army, Navy and Air Force will be put on standby at Camp Aguinaldo, the military general headquarters in Manila.
“We are only to support the police in this activity and what actually we will be providing is intelligence support.. but we are ready in case our CDM units are ready and on standby in case the police makes a request,” Kison said.
The NCRCOM chief said that any intelligence information that they would get aimed to undermine the transfer will be immediately passed on to the police for proper action.
Meanwhile, PNP spokesman, Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, Jr., said that the police team tasked to handle the transfer of the former president from Taguig City to Quezon City are now ready to perform and complete their task.
“Unless the court changes the date, we are ready to push through with the transfer on Friday… but we will give her enought time to prepare for the transfer,” Cruz told reporters in a press briefing in Camp Crame.
The PNP spokesman said the former president is likely to be transferred “by land,” but other options are being considered for her safety, but the time of transfer will not be announced as part of security measures.
The former president, who is under arrest for electoral sabotage charges, is set to be transferred on Friday from the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City to VMMC in Quezon City.
A Pasay City Regional Trial Court has ordered her transfer.
