CIDG nabs ‘kotong cop’ in Manila
PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) operatives ha arrested a member of the Manila Police District-Traffice Enforcement Unit (MPD-TEU) for alleged extortion activities in Ermita, Manila.
PNP spokesman, Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr. identified the policeman arrested by CIDG operatives in an entrapment operation as SPO4 Arnel Cruz, a resident of Diego Silang in Taguig City.
The PNP spokesman said that SPO4 Cruz was arrested by CIDG while in the act of receiving marked money from one of the CIDG operatives.
The policemen was accused of extorting money from a motorist whom he had accused of violating traffic laws along P. Ocampo st., corner of Adriatico st., in Ermita, Manila last December 8.
Recovered from SPO4 Cruz’s possession when arrested was the marked money, the driver’s license of a certain Erlito Estrada, while his service firearm of .9mm Beretta pistol loaded with 18 live ammunition were also confiscated.
The PNP spokesman said that a case of robbery extortion is being prepared by the CIDD against SPO4 Cruz for filing in the court.
“The PNP’s campaign to neutralize all forms of criminalities sustained its relentless effort in the implementation of law enforcement without fear and favor under the leadership of our PNP Chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome where discipline always remain a central focus and decisive in punishing the misfits and undisciplined,” Cruz said.
The PNP spokesman said the entrapment operation is a result of a weeklong surveillance conducted by the CIDG upon orders from higher authorities who was irked by photos on a daily tabloid showing the subject policeman taking bribes from motorists.
The policeman was also a subject of a news report several years back as involved in illegal activities. Anthony Vargas
