Nasabotahe si Asiong Salonga sa Metro Manila Film Festival

THE MMFF fever is on. Come join the fun. A day before the film fest opened, colleague Dennis Adobas who used to do column here for Remate entertainment under his logo Cognoscente forwarded to me Jessica Zafra’s bile and total impression of this year’s film harvest in her blogsite as nothing but shit and dung.

Jessica is nothing short of valid, this gifted nerd at writing. She harks back at the MMFF which used to showcased such oeuvre as Insiang, Pagputi Ng Uwak, Pag-itim Ng Tagak, Burlesque Queen, Minsa’y Isang Gamu-Gamo, etc. Those were the days my friend we thought will never end ho-hum!

That was the time when the triangulated film-making geniuses of directors Celso Ad Castillo (the surviving one and to be named yet National Artist as well), Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal who both received National Artist for Film posthumous awards were almost the standard for non-nonsense film making.

You know Virginia, eh Jessica zeitgeists like the three geniuses mentioned comes once in a lifetime so we are to put up with mediocre film directors including the works of underrated ones who are not given the right support and projects every so often now and then with or without the MMFF. Jessica is the last genius to be lectured on the rarity of geniuses either hahaha!

But I understand her bile. You just have to spew it out after viewing them all for final judgment come awards night. It’s like editing columns or write-ups that hardly could stand heavy editing even (right my dear editor Pete?).

It’s nice to know some people still take the MMFF with seriousness of purpose. They are not jaded like most who have come to accept that the MMFF is for viewers who think and view the cinematic world like children (pun intended there, and my apologies to the precocious children of God).

For the other sidelights, friend Jobert Sucaldito sent me this text: “Gud pm. Nakakaloka! Gud luck and bravo sa Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story!”

Just asking. Hay…”

On my part I am convinced Asiong Salonga film is far ample world-class in all aspects, acting, craft wise, etc.

Jeorge ER Ejercito rito, thanks to the underrated genius behind the film the maverick Director Tikoy Aguiluz.

My fearless forecast was that with the tandem of the country’s most natural comedienne Ai-Ai delas Alas and Vic Sotto, Enteng Ng Ina Mo (epek rin naman sobra ang mga di mapapantayang comic antics ni Bossing Vic rito thru the famously comic genius of blockbuster and super hit veteran Director Tony Y. Reyes) would top the tills dahil nga the general run of people would want to laugh their hearts out this season for all their money’s worth.

Pero di rin paaawat sigurado kami kung hahakot ng awards ang Panday 2 in terms of craft for Senator Bong’s brother  Director Marlon Revilla who helped Director Mac Alejandre in supervising the state-of-the arts effects of Panday 2 to come out highly Hollywoodish which it did, not to mention the noticeable input of  Bong Revilla, Jr. in the acting department.

Doon sila natin paglalaban-labanin.

This time head-on ang collision ng dalawang mag-best friends na sina Kris Aquino na kinamumuhian ever ni Jobert Sucaldito at Ai-Ai delas Alas sa Best Actress Award. Abangan ang resulta ng MMFF Awards Night.
