Nolte shares 6th place in Vizag GM International Open
FILIPINO International Master Rolando Nolte defeated Indian IM Srinath Narayanan in the 11th and final round on Thursday (December 1) to finish in a tie for sixth to 10th places in the Vizag GM International Open Chess Championships in India.
Nolte tallied 8.0 points on six wins, one loss and four draws in a five-way tie for sixth and earned ninth place honors after the tiebreak.
He was tied with sixth placer GM Zaven Andriasian of Armenia, seventh placer IM Sahaj Grover, eighth placer IM Sundar Shyam and 10th placer GM Arun Prasad of India in the event which participated by 150 players.
Another Filipino entry GM Richard Bitoon finished in a tie for 48th to 62nd places with 6.5 points. The Medellin, Cebu ace drew his final match against IM Sudhakar Babu N of India.
Overnight solo leader GM Abhijeet Gupta of India yielded to GM Tigran Petrosian of Armenia in the final round but still emerged as champion with a higher tie break points. He finished with 8.5 points, the same output of second placer GM Evgeny Gleizerov of Russia, third placer Petrosian, fourth placer GM Henrik Danielsen of Iceland and fifth placer IM Lalith Babu MR of India.
