Old couple dead as truck rams a multi-cab
MANILA, Philippines – An old couple were killed and five others were injured after their vehicle was rammed by a speeding ten-wheeler on Wednesday afternoon in Agusan del Norte, police reports said Thursday.
Reports reaching Camp Crame’s operations center identified the fatalities in the vehicular smash-up as Marcelo Caluyang, 95 and his wife, Lucena, 90.
Injured were in the accident were Jennifer Simblante, 39, Evelyn Bernaldez, 24, Bernard Llido, 52, Isidra Torres, 39, and Alicia Sarsaba, 12, reports said.
The reports said the incident took place at around 12:30pm along the national highway in Purok 7 Navintalan, Brgy. Matabao in Buenavista town of said province.
The victims were on board a multi-cab when it was rammed by a 10-wheeler truck, driven by Joesel Lucinda, who tried to overtake a tricycle.
The driver miscalculated and rammed the smaller vehicle, dragging it for a few meters before hitting a house on the side of the road, reports said.
The truck driver surrendered to the police and charges of reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide, multiple physical injuries and damage to property is being readied against him.
