PNP:No electronic gadgets for GMA while at VMMC
MANILA, Philippines – Former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will not be allowed to use electronic gadgets such as mobile phones and computers once detained at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC), a top police official said Thursday.
The former president, who was arrested for electoral sabotage charges last month, is set to be transferred for hospital detention at the VMMC on orders of Pasay City Regional Trial Court.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome said the Pasay RTC handling the case of the former president gave instruction that no VIP treatment shall be accorded to Mrs. Arroyo.
“Also included in the order is the instruction to avoid perception of VIP treatment, so the use of private cellphones and computers will not be allowed inside the hospital,” Bartolome told reporters in a chance interview at Camp Crame.
The PNP has been designated by the court as the lead agency in providing security for Mrs. Arroyo, whose supporters say is under threat against someone inside in the Aquino administration.
On Thursday morning, the Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 112 ordered her transfer from St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City to VMMC in Quezon City.
The PNP chief said that they will regularly check on the VMMC presidential suite to ensure that no gadgets will be brought there.
Bartolome also added that they are now mapping out a procedure that will be strictly followed by persons visiting the former president.
