PHL age-group champs set to compete in Singapore
THE country’s top young players will mix it up with their counterparts from neighboring countries in the 2nd Singapore International Youth Age-Group Individual Chess Championships on December 26-31 at the Jurong East Sports Hall in Singapore.
Former national kiddies champion Vince Angelo Medina will try to establish himself as one of the top Filipino chess prospects in the international chess arena as he competes in the premiere Open Under-17 category.
The other Philippine representatives in the annual tournament are Nikki Erika Yngayo and Michelle Yaon in the Girls U-17; Jerard Docena and Paolo Bersamina in the Open U-14; Marie Antoinette San Diego and Shania Mae Mae Mendoza in the Girls U-14; Istraelito Rilloraza, Emanuel Van Paler, John Marvin Miciano, Joshua Daniel Tan, Daniel John Lemi and Carlos Miguel Guevarra in the Open U-11; Fiona Geeweneth Guirhem, Naomi Gywne Ramos and Lianne Tiffany Garingalao in the Girls U-11; Ronald Canino, Khulene Lord dela Cruz and Carlos Miguel Guevarra in the Open U-8; and Mae Ann Joy Baclayon, Jerlyn Mae San Diego and Darlyn Villanueva in the Girls U-8.
Supporting the delegation are National Chess Federation of the Philippines chairman/president Prospero “Butch” Pichay and the Philippine Sports Commission headed by Chairman Richie Garcia.
